I switched over to Austin Area OBGYN and Dr.Akin after going to my prior practice/doctor for 10 years. Not only did I appreciate how thorough and professional Dr. Akin is, but he made me feel very comfortable upon my first visit which also entailed some unexpected news. I also am an individual who appreciates candor and I felt Dr. Akin has mastered the balance of being direct, while empathetic. He even has some great jokes! I feel very fortunate I switched to Dr.Akin when I did as he discovered a rather serious asymptomatic issue while conducting my sonogram which he includes in his annual exams. He took extra time and care to fully explain to me what to expect from the process to come to rectify the issue and was extremely patient in answering all my questions. With over 40+ years of experience, his record speaks for itself and I know I am in the best hands. Dr.Akin and his team (shout out to his awesome nurse Diana) have my full trust.

Important Insurance Update – Aetna & BCBS-TX Patients
 
Austin Area OBGYN wants to inform our patients that our contracts with Aetna and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas (BCBS-TX) are currently scheduled to end in early 2026 due to unsuccessful negotiations on updated reimbursement rates.

What you should know:

Aetna
  • We remain in-network through February 1, 2026
  • After that date, unless an agreement is reached, we may be considered out-of-network
  • Certain patients, including those 24+ weeks pregnant, may qualify for continuity-of-care coverage

BCBS-TX
  • We remain in-network through February 3, 2026 for PPO and HMO plans
  • We remain in-network through May 4, 2026 for Blue Advantage (BAV) plans
  • After those dates, unless an agreement is reached, we may be considered out-of-network
  • Certain patients, including those 24+ weeks pregnant, may qualify for continuity-of-care coverage
