Childbirth Classes with Kelly

The doctors encourage first-time parents to enroll in childbirth classes, whether scheduled for vaginal delivery or cesarean. Our childbirth class is offered monthly on a Saturday and is designed for those who prefer a one-day workshop.

This is a fun, interactive class. Kelly has been teaching this class for AAOBGYN for 22 years. We will have a pediatrician speak at the class and we will discuss the basics of newborn care. We discuss the issues as it would pertain to either a vaginal or cesarean delivery. We discuss most of the interventions you may undergo in the hospital. Postpartum is such an important topic that deserves discussion, again whether delivering vaginally or by cesarean. This is an enjoyable class. We will break for lunch and will take a tour of the hospital. Couples receive lots of good information which will serve them well.

TOPICS THAT WILL BE COVERED:

  • The process of Labor and Delivery
  • Brief discussion of Lamaze and relaxation
  • Pain control and anesthesia options
  • Hospital experience
  • Tips on choosing a pediatrician
  • Discussion with a pediatrician about basic newborn experiences
  • Tour of Labor and Delivery
  • Discussion of cesarean delivery indications and process
  • Postpartum care

COST: $100 per couple. Please make payment the day of the class. Please pay by cash, check, or Venmo. Checks would be payable to Kelly Reagan.

Childbirth Classes With Kristie

Kristie Willis, RN, BSN: Kristie has been a nurse for over 24 years at Austin Area OBGYN. She currently works for Dr. Robert Cowan but has also worked with all our physicians. She has taught our Newborn Care Class since March 2001 and Childbirth Classes since May 2008.

This is an enjoyable class. We will break for lunch and will do a tour of the hospital. You will receive lots of good information which will serve you well.

TOPICS THAT WILL BE COVERED:

  • Prepare expectant mothers and their partners for childbirth.
  • Discuss hospital routine and policy.
  • Discuss vaginal delivery and cesarean delivery.
  • Discuss natural labor vs pain control vs anesthesia.
  • Discuss post-partum care.
  • Private tour of Texas Women’s Center (Labor/Delivery, Postpartum, Nursery.)

COST: $100 per couple. Please make payment the day of the class. Please pay by cash, check, or Venmo. Checks would be payable to Kelly Reagan.

SCHEDULE: Two Consecutive Wednesdays, 6:30-9:30 pm OR, One Saturday all day class, 9:00 am-4:00 pm

Infant & Child CPR

Classes are held in the waiting room of Austin Area OBGYN, located on the first floor of the Women’s Center at North Austin Medical Center

TOPICS THAT WILL BE COVERED:

  • Discussion and mannequin practice
  • Mouth-to-mouth and nose rescue breathing
  • Signs of circulation and chest compressions
  • 1 rescuer CPR
  • Relief of a choking infant or child
  • Infant and child safety checklist  (such as: a car, indoor, outdoor and firearms safety)
  • CPR for family and friends

Course cost: $40.00 per person

Class size is limited; therefore, you must call and pre-pay to guarantee a place in the class.  Registration fee is non-refundable.

 Tracie Zinda, RN, BSN: Tracie graduated from Texas Tech University with  a Bachelor’s degree in nursing.  She worked in the Seton Medical Center Labor and Delivery Unit for 1.5 years. She then joined AAOBGYN as a nurse.  Now she teaches Childbirth and Infant & Child CPR classes.

Sibling Preparation Class

These classes are offered on Saturday mornings from 10am- 11:30am and will meet in our AAOBGYN office waiting room.

TOPICS THAT WILL BE COVERED:

  • What to expect when baby arrives.
  • What to expect when baby comes home.
  • Child’s role as big brother or sister; holding, diapering, and feeding baby.
  • Mini tour of labor and delivery floor and nursery.

WHAT TO BRING?:

  • Your child’s favorite doll or teddy bear.
  • Camera

COST:

  • $30.00 per child, $20.00 each additional child.

This is a fun, interactive class, and snacks/drinks will be provided for the children.
