Position: Scribe with Medical Assistant duties

Purpose:  Responsible for assisting clinical staff with patient care and a variety of pre, intra, and post encounter activities; as well as documenting accurate and detailed information for patient visits. Responsibilities:

• Accompany patients to exam/procedure rooms

Skills, Education, & Experience:

• High School diploma or GED is required, prefer some college.

Job Title: Laborists Physician – Obstetrics & Gynecology
Location: Austin, Texas (greater metro area)

Position Overview:

We are a premiere, privately-owned Obstetrics & Gynecology practice serving the Austin area for over 70 years, affiliated with a hospital of excellence with an already existing hospitalist program, seeking a highly qualified Laborists Physician to join and be a part of our OBGYN team.  The ideal candidate will provide dedicated in-house labor & delivery coverage, as well as ER coverage for our mutual gynecologic patients for our practice only.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide in-house coverage for labor and delivery unit shifts, including admissions, active labor management, all deliveries during the shift and only weekend postpartum rounds.
• Act as the attending physician on behalf of our group only for onsite assigned shifts, with the ability to make decisions, perform deliveries and respond to obstetric emergencies, in coordination with the Austin Area OB/GYN and hospital staff.
• Work collaboratively with the AAOBGYN physicians: when they are off-site or occupied, you assume responsibility; when they are on site, coordinate care seamlessly.
• Participate in quality improvement, safety initiatives and unit protocols for maternal‐fetal care and labor & delivery best practices.
• Maintain excellent documentation in the electronic medical record, follow institutional policies, and support compliance and peer review activities.
• Provide consultative support for triage, antepartum admissions and obstetric emergencies as required.
• Be available for scheduled shifts (12-hour, 24-hour, or hybrid format depending on group preference) and participate in call rotation or back-up structure.

Qualifications:

• MD or DO degree, with board certification or eligibility in Obstetrics & Gynecology (American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology or equivalent).
• Valid Texas medical license (or ability to obtain) and unrestricted privileges / eligibility at affiliated hospital(s).
• Demonstrated experience in labor & delivery, obstetric triage, cesarean delivery, obstetric emergencies preferred.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to collaborate with physicians, midwives, nursing staff and hospital leadership.
• Commitment to high-quality, evidence-based obstetric care and patient safety.
• Comfortable working shifts (in-house coverage) and managing laboring patients independently during coverage periods.

Purpose:  Manages the flow of the daily patient phone calls.  Helps triage and appropriately route the patients’ problems and concerns.  Reviews all labs and prescription refills and processes using protocols. Good working Knowledge of EMR. Works patients up as needed.

Responsibilities:

• Performs a combination of the following duties:
• Receives, manages and returns all patient phone calls on a timely basis, ensuring all calls are returned by end of business day. Regularly reviews incoming patient request, handling all patient cases, administration requests, consult notes and prescription refills.  Processes documents for L&D and for Surgery Scheduling to ensure all required documents are received by facility prior to admit.
• Prioritizes all phone calls and uses sound clinical judgement in determining best action including same day appointments, ordering labs/prescriptions or sending to acute care setting facility (ER/L&D).
• Thoroughly explains all lab results and recommendations of physician and reiterates plan of care developed at time of visit.
• Completes charting efficiently and completely ensuring good continuity of care between caregivers and nursing staff.
• Authorizes and calls in prescription refills as per protocol and physician direction with documentation and updating patient’s charts.
• Screens patient calls to the physician; handles all calls that do not require the physician’s intervention, ensuring that phone calls are returned in a timely manner.

• Conducts physical examination on patient and records condition.
• Diagnose acute and chronic illnesses.

Responsibilities:

• Performs radiologic testing specific to mammography.
• Operates radiographic equipment and other equipment/devices as appropriate.
• Calculates exposure factors.
• Assists physicians by obtaining and communicating results timely, accurately, and without compromising security and confidentiality.
• Performs quality control procedures prior to performing clinical procedures and regularly inspects equipment.
• Evaluates radiographs for diagnostic quality.

Responsibilities:

• Performs clinical assessment and diagnostic sonography examinations.
• Performs all requested sonographic examinations as ordered by the attending physician.
• Prepares preliminary reports.
• Uses cognitive sonographic skills to identify, record, and adapt procedures as appropriate to anatomical, pathological, diagnostic information and images.
• Analyzes sonograms, synthesizes sonographic information and medical history, and communicates findings to the appropriate physician.
• Assumes responsibility for the safety, mental and physical comfort of patients while they are in the sonographers care.
• Ensures all required documentation, requisitions, forms, charges, and patient’s medical record are completed. Completes all written and computer documentation in a timely manner.
